A 17-year-old named Abhiram vanished after being tricked into meeting a peer who impersonated his ex-girlfriend’s Instagram account. The accused, also 17, used the ex-girlfriend’s profile to start conversations with Abhiram, pretending to be a girl. Abhiram was lured to meet the suspect under false pretenses, believing he was meeting someone new. Upon arrival, the accused struck Abhiram with a stone and strangled him to death. The body was later disposed of near a drain with the help of a 22-year-old, Umar, who was previously involved in theft cases.

Abhiram’s family reported his disappearance days earlier, but police allegedly failed to act promptly. When his body was recovered, protests erupted outside the Sreekaryam police station, with relatives and locals demanding accountability for the alleged delays. Police have arrested two individuals and are questioning a third girl involved in the case. Commissioner Arul R.B. Krishna confirmed both arrested individuals were linked to the murder, and inquest proceedings are underway to investigate further.
