On 2026-10-11 Delhi Police detained Dhruv Rathee from his residence. The detention took place ahead of a planned protest by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

Later the same day, 2026-10-11, Rathee was released by Delhi Police.
The CJP had called for a demonstration at Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The protest was linked to concerns over electoral roll revisions that the party said required Kumar’s step down.
As part of this operation they detained over 7,000 protesters at multiple locations across Delhi.
Police imposed a major security clampdown to prevent the protest from taking place. As part of this operation they detained over 7,000 protesters at multiple locations across Delhi. Among those held were several opposition leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal and Mamata Banerjee, as well as CJP leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka, and Saurav Das.
A police source warned that Rathee "can be detained again, or further legal action might be taken if he tries to go to Jantar Mantar despite prohibitory orders." The statement indicated that any attempt to reach the protest site despite the imposed restrictions could lead to renewed detention or other legal steps.
Police are likely to register multiple FIRs in connection with alleged assaults on personnel during the clampdown.
Those who cry about police brutality should someday watch videos coming from Germany, USA & rest of the west, how they handle the protesters. Delhi Police is still very lenient & this video is from Dhruv Rathee's home Germany but he will never speak against them, won't go on street for these protesters.😂😂 https://t.co/8gcZDIHNqA
