Egypt's parliament has deferred a vote on supporting Saudi Arabia's intervention in Yemen. The move signals a cautious approach by the legislature, even as other branches of government signal readiness to act.

On the same day, the National Defense Council, chaired by President Abdel Fattah el‑Sisi, met to discuss regional security and threats, including what it described as Saudi Arabia's increasing attacks. The council’s gathering was called to assess the evolving situation and to coordinate a unified Egyptian response.
During the meeting, the council decided to fully support Saudi Arabia. This declaration of unequivocal backing was recorded as one of the council’s key resolutions, reflecting the executive’s view that Egypt should stand with its ally in the ongoing conflict.
This pledge shows that, while prepared to stand with Saudi Arabia, Egypt intends to pursue dialogue and negotiation as a parallel track to ease regional strains.
The council also decided to provide all necessary support to Saudi Arabia. The phrasing indicates a commitment to supply whatever resources—logistical, material or otherwise—are deemed required to assist the Saudi effort, without specifying exact measures.
In addition to material backing, the council decided to continue diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in the region. This pledge shows that, while prepared to stand with Saudi Arabia, Egypt intends to pursue dialogue and negotiation as a parallel track to ease regional strains.
Looking ahead, Egypt’s parliament announced it will hold a second session to revisit the matter. Furthermore, the legislature scheduled an emergency meeting for Saturday to decide whether to grant the armed forces defense authority to act in support of Saudi Arabia if requested.
President Sisi personally called the emergency meeting to discuss granting defense authority to the armed forces should Saudi Arabia request such assistance. The National Defense Council framed its decisions as necessary to preserve Saudi security and stability. Despite the council’s clear backing, parliament’s decision to defer its vote leaves the final authorization pending, awaiting the outcome of the weekend emergency session and the subsequent Monday deliberation.
