Katie Zacharia, who had just been appointed White House Press Secretary, thanked President Trump for giving her the job. In her first briefing she reviewed the Trump administration’s actions, especially in the economy, looking ahead to the November 3 elections.

During that briefing Zacharia announced that the United States had requested the resignation of Kimberly Guilfoyle, the U.S. Ambassador to Athens. She noted that Trump had also said Guilfoyle could be removed and wished Guilfoyle good luck.
The move followed allegations that Guilfoyle had accepted gifts and money in exchange for access to U.S. officials.

Zacharia’s statement came ahead of the upcoming U.S. congressional midterm elections, with the vote set for November 3.
On the same day, Katie Zakaria held her inaugural press conference. She reiterated that the United States had asked Guilfoyle to resign and offered her well wishes for the future.
When reporters asked whether the United States had ceased intelligence sharing with Ukraine, Zakaria declined to give an immediate answer, saying she would need to investigate the matter before responding.
According to Bill Hemmer, the press conference lasted approximately 14 minutes.
