The incident in Raptadu, Anantapur district, has left a Class 10 student recovering at Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru. The victim, who was attacked with an electric rod, is currently under medical care, with doctors optimistic about removing her ventilator support. Following the attack, the accused, Hemant, was involved in a shootout with police while resisting arrest. During the confrontation, Hemant allegedly attacked officers with a knife. As a result of severe injuries sustained during the shootout, including a shattered knee joint and a complete stoppage of blood circulation, doctors performed an amputation of Hemant's right leg. His left leg also suffered severe injuries, requiring further medical evaluation. Police have registered multiple charges against him, including attempted murder and assault with a sharp weapon, and he faces the possibility of life imprisonment. Former CM Y.S. Jagan visited the victim, demanding ₹50 lakh in compensation for her family, while attributing the rise in such violent incidents to the availability of alcohol and ganja.
