The People's Party of Cádiz has demanded that Algeciras mayor José Ignacio Landaluce step down immediately after two women who are members of the party filed formal complaints accusing him of sexual assault. The party says the allegations are serious enough to require his instant departure from office.

Bruno García, who serves as the president of PP Cádiz, convened a meeting with the municipal councilors to make clear that the party expects them to withdraw their backing for the mayor. He warned that any councilor who refuses to comply could face internal disciplinary measures from the party.
Twelve out of the fifteen councilors who form the governing team have put their names on a document asking the mayor to resign. This represents a clear majority within the local government body.
She states that the incident occurred on July 10 inside the mayor’s office while she was there for work‑related matters.
José Ignacio Landaluce has been the mayor of Algeciras since 2011. When a previous accusation surfaced, he publicly denied it and insisted he was innocent. Despite that earlier denial, he now confronts a set of allegations that have built up over the last year.
A second woman, also affiliated with the Partido Popular, submitted a formal complaint saying she suffered sexual abuse at the hands of the mayor. She states that the incident occurred on July 10 inside the mayor’s office while she was there for work‑related matters.
The PP has reiterated its call for Landaluce to resign without delay. In response, the mayor has reportedly indicated that he might consider running as an independent candidate should he lose the party’s support. This situation follows a series of earlier controversies and another recent complaint that had been directed at him.
After the latest complaint was filed, the PP of Cádiz announced that it no longer backs the mayor and is demanding his immediate resignation. The municipality of Algeciras is home to 128,082 residents. Landaluce first assumed the mayoral role in 2011. Of the fifteen councilors that make up the governing coalition, twelve have signed the resignation request. The party’s leadership took these steps on October 12, the same day the new complaint was made public and the PP formally withdrew its support.
