The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has dismissed two high-ranking officials from their positions as part of a major investigation conducted by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU). The investigation, known as Operation Carthage, revealed a criminal organization involving high-ranking officials from the SBU, the National Police, and the Office of the Prosecutor General. Among the suspects are a man with the last name 'Crime' and a 'Mexican' who is the founder and leader of the transnational drug cartel 'Khimprom'. SBU Chief Oleksandr Plokhyi emphasized the service's support for legal proceedings and cooperation with NABU and the Prosecution Service. He also stated that SBU is in contact with foreign colleagues to ensure the investigation is conducted in other jurisdictions. Plokhyi further mentioned the 'Mexican' and SBU's capability to locate him, highlighting the bureau's experience in such matters. NABU is conducting searches at the offices of Anton Kryvchuk, head of the SBU's internal security department, and Sergiy Duk, first deputy head of the SBU's department of national security protection.
