A Tragedy in Bahçelievler

On August 20, 2024, an eight-year-old boy died after falling from the sixth floor of a building in the Bahçelievler district of Istanbul. Eight-year-old Oğuzhan Moğol fell from the sixth floor of a seven-story building, an event that was initially shrouded in confusion. While the immediate aftermath suggested a tragic accident, the subsequent investigation by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecution has uncovered a far more sinister reality. What began as a report of a fatal tumble has evolved into a homicide case, with prosecutors now alleging that the boy’s death was no accident at all, but a deliberate act of violence.

The Witness in the Room

Central to the prosecution’s case is the testimony of the victim’s nine-year-old sister, G.H.M. Her account provides a harrowing glimpse into the moments leading up to the tragedy. According to the indictment, the conflict began over something as trivial as a request for chips. G.H.M. recounted that her 24-year-old uncle, Mustafa Uğur S., became enraged when Oğuzhan asked for the snack. In a chilling sequence of events, the uncle allegedly picked the boy up, moved him to the windowsill, and asked a terrifying question: "Shall I throw you?" Moments later, the boy was gone.

A Web of Deceit and Threats

In the immediate aftermath, the narrative presented to the outside world was one of a tragic, accidental slip. The uncle reportedly claimed that Oğuzhan had been sleeping when the incident occurred. However, G.H.M. told her aunt a very different story, insisting that her uncle had thrown her brother out the window. The young girl’s courage in speaking out came at a significant personal cost. She has alleged that she was subjected to intense pressure and intimidation by her own mother, grandfather, and uncle, who reportedly warned her that if she spoke the truth, "your grandmother, your father and you will be ruined, the result will be very bad."

told her aunt a very different story, insisting that her uncle had thrown her brother out the window.

The Final Plea

Further evidence emerged from the hospital, where a witness named H.A. was present as the family dealt with the unfolding crisis. H.A. reported hearing a final, desperate plea from the young boy to his mother: "Mom, save me, I am slipping from your hands." This haunting detail, captured in the prosecution’s findings, underscores the tragic finality of the boy’s experience and contradicts the initial claims of a simple accident.

Seeking Accountability

As the legal process moves forward, the boy’s father, Ersin Moğol, welcomed the indictment and stated he would demand prosecution for the negligence of other adults present in the home. While he welcomed the news of the indictment, he remains focused on the broader failures of the adults present in the home that day. "It is a very good news for us," he stated, referring to the legal action against the uncle, "but there was also great negligence of the people at home and we will demand their trial." The prosecution has responded to the weight of the evidence by requesting aggravated life imprisonment for Mustafa Uğur S., as well as for the mother and grandmother who were present when the event occurred.

The Path to Justice

On October 11, 2026, the Bakırköy Prosecution officially filed the indictment, formalizing the charges that have turned a family tragedy into a criminal trial. The case now stands as a somber examination of what happens when the protective boundaries of a home are violated by those meant to provide safety. As the judicial process continues, the focus remains on the consistent testimony of the young witness and the demand for accountability for all those who allegedly stood by or actively participated in the events that led to the death of eight-year-old Oğuzhan Moğol.
