The Bolshoi Theater hosted a celebratory event for the 150th anniversary of the Union of Theater Workers, now known as the Russian Theatrical Society. President Vladimir Putin attended the assembly to honor the organization, which has been renamed from the Union of Theater Workers of Russia.

During the assembly, Vladimir Mashkov, the head of the Russian Theatrical Society, presented President Putin with the first honorary badge of the society. The badge was recreated based on a historical design from the 19th century. Mashkov had previously announced the intention to rename the Union of Theater Workers to the Russian Theatrical Society.
President Putin addressed the assembly, noting that investments in theatrical projects from the business sector are welcome and that such initiatives deserve systematic support. He expressed gratitude for the society's many years of activity.
During the event, Putin shared a lighthearted moment regarding his prepared notes.
President Putin awarded the Russian Theatrical Society the 'Order for Merit in Culture and Art' to recognize its long-standing contributions. The society is known for organizing over 2,000 events annually. Looking toward the future, the organization is planning to celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2026 with over 2,000 events across the country, including special theatrical train journeys.
During the event, Putin shared a lighthearted moment regarding his prepared notes. He mentioned that he had initially written 'Dear Colleagues' at the beginning of his speech but crossed it out, fearing it might be misunderstood. After presenting the award, he concluded his remarks by saying, 'Good evening, dear colleagues!'
Reflecting on the importance of the arts, Putin stated that in Russia, theater is revered and loved, and its voice is undoubtedly listened to and trusted. He further remarked that theater possesses a truly great moral mission. The event underscored the society's ongoing role in the cultural life of the nation as it prepares for its upcoming anniversary initiatives.
