In the high-stakes arena of private sector banking, growth is often measured in incremental steps. For Tamilnad Mercantile Bank (TMB), the second quarter of the 2027 fiscal year arrived with a leap, reporting a quarterly net profit of ₹451.14 crore – the highest ever recorded in its history. This figure represents a 42% year‑on‑year increase, driven by robust core banking income and cost efficiency.

The profit jump was largely fueled by net interest income, the difference between the interest earned on loans and the interest paid to depositors. As TMB expanded its lending, total advances rose to ₹60,691 crore, reflecting a 29.3% growth over the same period in the previous year.
TMB has managed to scale its operations while maintaining strong asset quality. Credit costs have been contained and the cost‑to‑income ratio remains under control, staying below 40%.
In anticipation of the Expected Credit Loss (ECL) framework, TMB is preparing for higher provisioning requirements.
