On 2026-10-12 Coventry City hosted Newcastle United in a Premier League match that ended 4-1 in favour of the hosts. Jack Rudoni scored from the penalty spot in the sixth minute. Coventry added further goals through Sidiki Cherif, Ellis Simms and Stephen Mfuni. Sven Botman netted for Newcastle with approximately twenty minutes left to play. Coventry's aggressive tactical approach under manager Frank Lampard proved successful, helping the team move out of the relegation zone to fourteenth place in the league table. The victory also marked the first time in twenty‑five years that a Coventry player had scored a home Premier League goal, the last such occasion being John Hartson. Newcastle missed an opportunity to climb to fourth place with the loss. After the match Matthias Jaissle said, “There were elements in both boxes where we need to step up and do better. Those fine margins can make all the difference.” Frank Lampard remarked, “It probably means I didn’t manage to scream well enough to tell one or two of them to get back”.
