Joshua Foster, a British father, was on the first day of a family holiday in Cyprus when a tragic accident occurred. While attempting to show his two-year-old son a view from their hotel room, Foster placed the toddler on a windowsill. Unbeknownst to Foster, the window was open, and the child fell nearly 40 feet to his death.

Following the incident, Foster appeared in court where he pleaded guilty to causing his son's death. The court heard that Foster had believed the window was shut and that there was protective glass in place. He had not realized the section of the window was open when he lifted his son to look outside.
