On 13 October, Delhi Capitals announced that former Indian all‑rounder Yuvraj Singh had been named assistant and batting coach for the upcoming IPL season. This appointment represents Singh’s first official coaching role after a career spent primarily as a player. The franchise confirmed the news through an official statement, marking the start of a new association between the cricketer and the team that once bought him at auction.
The move brings Singh back into contact with Saurabh Ganguly, his former captain, allowing the two to work together again, this time in a coaching capacity. Before taking on this formal role, Singh had already spent time mentoring younger players within the franchise, offering guidance based on his own experiences.
Both co‑owners of the club welcomed the appointment. Parth Jindal described Singh as one of India’s biggest match‑winners, emphasizing that his experience mentoring youngsters and his ability to connect with players would prove invaluable. Kiran Kumar Granthi pointed to Singh―s illustrious career and his deep understanding of the game, saying these qualities would lift the team to new heights.
These numbers reflect a lengthy stint across the three major formats, during which he contributed with both bat and ball.
Singh’s connection with the Delhi franchise dates back to 2015, when the then Delhi Daredevils acquired him at the IPL auction for a record sum of INR 16 crore. That price highlighted the franchise’s belief in his match‑winning potential at the time, and it remains a notable figure in the league’s history.
Over his international career, Singh represented India in 304 One Day Internationals, 40 Test matches and 58 T20 Internationals. These numbers reflect a lengthy stint across the three major formats, during which he contributed with both bat and ball.
In the IPL, Singh has featured in 132 matches, accumulating 2,750 runs and taking 36 wickets. His performances in the league have included explosive innings and handy breakthroughs, underscoring the all‑round ability that prompted his early auction price.
Speaking about his new role, Singh said he is extremely excited to start a new chapter of his life with Delhi Capitals. He noted his old association with the franchise and looked forward to pairing up with Dada (Saurabh Ganguly) in a coaching capacity. He described coaching as something he feels passionate about and expressed eagerness to begin working with a team full of talented youngsters.
